Go to Walmart's magazine section. There is a great short hairstyles mag out now. I don't remember the name, but it is about the thickness of 2 regular magazines, not a bunch of ads and has just about every popular hairstyle in it. I have mine cut like that and I love it.

for styling it...my hair is kinda scene i guess
all i do is straighten it then take some water wax and frizz the top layer a little bit
you can also flip your hair over and blowdry it when its dry that can help show the layers more

Buy some hairspray :D
and a rat-tail comb. Then tease the top layers a bit by taking the comb and working the hair up a bit by brushing towards your head instead of out. then take the hairspray and spray under and all over the layers of your hair.
